Leopard-retouch by realitysquared Leopard-retouch by realitysquared
Well, Nothing really new here.

This is just a slightly retouched and cleaned up submission of my original Leopard from late last year.

I made a few alterations to the neck and shoulder area, the eye and also darkened up the shadows around the mouth and teeth in preparation for submitting this to DAPrints.

Comments and Suggestions are always welcomed.

Just letting you know that is a Jaguar, not a Leopard.

Excellent work. Do you do commissioned work too?
realitysquared Featured By Owner Jul 12, 2013  Hobbyist General Artist
I unfortunately do not have the spare time available to do commission work.

Wow amazing drawing. The pencils are cleverly used and I love the lighting. Because of it, I thought it was a photo!

It's actually not a leopard.
It's an jaguar.

Okay, I'll say it to you guys.

Anyone thinking this is this, yes, but before calling this one the stolen pic check the dates. R^2 has had his up since 2002, the other has been up since 2008.

If you can post an earlier version of the same thing by all means correct me.

At least one of them is someone calling theft.

I figured.

Um....this isn't a leopard. This is a jaguar. Are you familiar at all with their markings?
Dark-Hyena Featured By Owner May 17, 2012
I think you may have used a jaguar as a reference. It's head's way too boxy to be a leopard's. Otherwise, good picture! Just needs retitling.

Great drawing! I like the perfect control of blank area... mostly the whiskers. It was made with what kind of pencil?

It's beautiful. When I saw the thumbnail before I clicked, I thought it was a photograph. Really great work you've done on the anatomy!

If you don't like it, don't comment  and I know you do anyway :XD: um, anyway... I think it looks awesome, I haven't looked at the other one, but I bet this looks better :) well, if this was in 2002, I wonder how you're doing now. I guess I'll just have to look ;)

beautiful! I love how the whites in the muzzle disappear into the background. It's always tempting to stick a line or tone in there.
realitysquared Featured By Owner Jun 4, 2008  Hobbyist General Artist
The key to using negative space correctly and to getting the presentation just right is to avoid that urge to draw in that line or provide some sort of border. I don't think this piece would give quite the same impression if the similar shades weren't allowed to combined and blend seamlessly into each other like they do.
KV-Arts Featured By Owner Jun 4, 2008  Professional Traditional Artist
absolutely. it would seem more cut-out or focus only on the subject rather than a creature in an actually environment (no matter how little information is giving to a kind of environment). :)
wynter Featured By Owner May 12, 2008
This is looking pretty fabulous.... especially the whiskers. The whole face is really well done, and very expressive. I love leopards, and it's diffifult to draw them well, so I really appreacite this! :D The only thing I would suggest would be to darken the spots and shadows on the shoulder to make them the same shades used in the face.

Nice work!

Wow, how gorgeous
I love the 'old weathered look' and I love how the black just pops out, fantastic!
realitysquared Featured By Owner Feb 22, 2008  Hobbyist General Artist
That particular sepia tone is a side effect of the original being scanned; for some odd reason the process added the yellow and I liked it enough to leave it in there.
Chantari Featured By Owner Feb 22, 2008
it's still pretty awesome for a mistake!

Very amazing. The light and dark areas are used very well and the soft watercolor-like feel is wonderful. Great job!
